This weekend I headed to France with Teesside Motorsports for the Le Mans 24 Hour Karting race, and after finally getting home, I can honestly say it was one of the most enjoyable events I’ve ever been part of.

The race itself was brilliant from start to finish. It was incredibly hot all weekend, which definitely made things more challenging, but the atmosphere, the competition and the experience of racing through the night made it all worthwhile.

We got off to a really strong start with Jacob taking the opening stint and putting us in a great position early on. The team settled into a good rhythm and we were looking competitive from the outset.

One of the more unusual parts of the event came when the organisers stopped the race and instructed everyone to stay out of the sun due to weather warnings and the extreme conditions. It meant we had an eight-hour break in the middle of the race, which isn’t something you experience very often in motorsport.

At the time of the stoppage, we were running third in the Pro category and feeling positive about our chances. It was a strange situation because all you want to do is keep racing, but the organisers made the right decision and everyone’s safety had to come first.

When racing resumed later that evening, we were straight back into it and focused on pushing forward.

Fortunately for me, my three driving stints fell during the cooler parts of the evening and early hours of the morning. That certainly helped because the temperatures during the daytime were pretty intense.

My favourite stint of the entire race came at around 6am. There’s something really unique about being out on track as the sun starts to come up, especially after racing through the night. The kart felt great and I was able to make good progress through the field.

Probably the strongest part of my race was working my way through traffic. At one stage I was taking four or five karts per lap, which was a lot of fun and really helped us move forward. Everything seemed to click during that stint and it was one of those moments where you can just focus on racing and enjoy every lap.

After 24 hours of competition, the team crossed the line fifth in class overall, which we were really pleased with considering the conditions and the interruptions throughout the race.

A huge thank you to everyone at Le Mans for putting on such a fantastic event, and to everybody at Teesside Motorsports for all their hard work throughout the weekend.

Now it’s time to catch up on some sleep before focusing on the next challenge in my Porsche.
